Cornish stairs comp

This staircase evokes the look of a quarterdeck on a prestigious sailing vessel, complementing the commanding views across Cornwall’s gorgeous countryside.
There is something just ever so nautical about this grand straight staircase in Newquay, Cornwall.

When you think of nautical or ocean themed decoration you may think of turquoise or blue colour schemes. Yet for this tasteful design, the sea has been brought into the home by evoking the feel of a timber ship and mimicking reflections on the water through use of glass.
The property this staircase went in has a bright and contemporary design, allowing lots of light into the space through sky-lights and large windows. Accompanying this modern look is an extensive use of rich coloured timbers

The solid flight leads up to a mezzanine floor with a return balustrade, echoing a quarterdeck of a classic ship. This mezzanine gives sumptuous views across the Cornish countryside, uninterrupted thanks to the use of glass panels and minimalist handrails.
Elevating the staircase as a prominent feature in this home is the feature step at the foot of the design. Our client chose a D-end step which curls back on the newel post forming a larger platform, inviting people up the stairs.

Pleased with the final product, our client said: “We were delighted with pear stairs. We knew that because the stairs are a feature in the entrance we had to invest in a more expensive and not run of the mill straight stairs.
“Pears have not let us down my very capable carpenter joiner and myself took on the task of installing and it was a joy to work with the precision machining and made for easy installation.
“The stairs deserve a professional photographer rather than my feeble efforts with a phone.”
