It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
The 2024 Christmas season is finally upon us, and now is the perfect time to start thinking about dressing your home up for the occasion.
From the outside lights to the baubles and tinsel on the tree, there are plenty of ways to inject the Christmas spirit into your interior design. But have you thought about adorning your staircase ready to celebrate the big day?
In this post, our staircase design experts at Pear Stairs share their top five favourite seasonal staircase ideas you can use for inspiration this Christmas.
1. Add fairy lights
What’s Christmas without fairy lights?
A winter staple, fairy lights are the make or break of your festive decor, and they add the perfect minimalist touch to your apples and pears at Christmas time.
Whether you opt for cool-toned lights to complement a white-painted staircase or go for warmer-toned lights to pair with natural oak elements, they’re guaranteed to make your hallway feel ultra magical, warm, and welcoming.
Simply wind them around your handrail, run a string of lights along the length of your baserail (the rail that supports your spindles and sits parallel to your handrail), or even hang them between your spindles – the choice is yours!
2. Incorporate foliage
Another December essential, fresh or faux foliage is an excellent way to introduce some festive cheer to your hallway.
For many people, faux is the way to go, but if you do want to opt for a fresh foliage alternative, keep in mind that some Christmas plants can be toxic to your furry friends if you have them.
Whatever you choose, though, winding tree garlands around your bannister – or again securing them to the length of your baserail – not only looks stunning (especially when paired with the fairy lights we mentioned earlier!), but it also opens up the opportunity for you to hang more decorations.
Which leads us to our next point…
3. Hang baubles and other decorations
Bells. Ribbons. Baubles. Stockings.
The list goes on when it comes to festive decor, and they all look stunning when hung on your staircase.
Adding a pop of colour, combining textures, and helping you turn up the charm, hanging traditional Christmas decorations from your staircase garland is always a good idea, and with plenty of possibilities, you’re guaranteed to create something suited to your taste – be it bold and colourful, or neutral and understated.
4. Invest in a festive stair runner
If you prefer a more minimalist approach to your festive decor, or you’re simply not big on Christmas but still want to add a little something to your space, a stair runner is the way to go.
With a plethora of different options available, from red and green tartan patterns to plain festive reds and wintery blues, there’s something for everyone to deck the halls – or stairs, rather!
