5 trends in 2025 blog

Like it or not, 2025 is right around the corner.

With less than a month to go til’ the start of the new year, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your resolutions.

From finally putting your monthly gym membership to use and eating healthier, to saving money and spending more time with family and friends – there are many ways that we pledge to better ourselves when the 1st of January rolls around.

But what about our homes?

As one of the most prominent features, upgrading your staircase is the ideal way to give your space a fresh start, too.

In this article, our staircase design experts discuss the top five staircase trends that are sure to help level up your apples and pears in 2025!

1.   Enclosed staircases

Wooden staircases have always been a classic, with different types of timber being used for different parts of the balustrade. However, homeowners are getting creative with the way they use this material in their staircase designs.

Enclosed stairs, clad in all-natural timber, are looking to be a hit for 2025, especially for those who favour sleek and minimal, yet still highly functional, designs.

Rather than using oak or any other type of wood for your spindles and handrail, wooden stair cladding will be used to conceal stringers (structural side support) on either side of your stairs, creating a boxed-in feel that works perfectly for families living in open-plan spaces.

2.   Mixed materials

Combining different materials has been a popular choice for homeowners making over their staircases for many years and the trend looks set to continue into 2025.

Oak and glass is a particularly popular pairing and teaming them together is guaranteed to help transform your home in the new year.

The warmth of oak combined with the transparency of glass makes for a truly unique aesthetic – one that works wonderfully in both contemporary and traditionally styled properties.

Replacing your old wooden spindles with glass panels is also great if you want to create the illusion of more space within your home, thanks to the increased natural light pooling through the windows, down your hallway, and through your home.

3.   Nature-inspired staircases

A timeless trend, that’s guaranteed to continue into the new year and beyond, is bringing the outdoors in.

Staircases adorned with nature-inspired elements, like botanical patterns on risers, vine-like balusters, and even natural, reclaimed wood and other materials, help create a stunning harmony between design and nature.

4.   Floating staircases

A complete left turn from the aforementioned enclosed staircases, floating staircases are also expected to take off in 2025.

In recent years, these structural masterpieces have gained tremendous popularity, which doesn’t look set to slow any time soon.

Their minimalist design creates a feeling of weightlessness and gives the illusion that the steps are suspended in mid-air, thanks to their ingenious construction.

This is another staircase style that allows maximum light flow throughout your property, making rooms feel much more spacious and connected.

5.   Smart stairs

As technology continues to advance, you may be looking for ways to bring your stairs into the digital age.

Luckily, smart stairs are on trend for the coming year and there are plenty of ways you can lean into this idea.

Think motion sensors, automatic lighting systems, and even staircases that double as slides, there are endless possibilities to help you transform the way you move around your home.
