970. Epping Stairs

This staircase design has been made with a landing and offset winder for a slightly unusual profile. Parts of the staircase are carpeted but the exposed areas have been made with quality oak. These parts include the strings, stub newel posts and the dual feature steps. The other parts of the staircase have been made from whitewood or sourced elsewhere.

The customer was replacing an existing flight and was limited for space. They had specific dimensional requests for the feature steps and position of the winder steps that had to be accomodated in the design.

The client purchased specialist continuous handrail components & hand turned posts supplied by Dave Dalby Woodturnings’ in West Yorkshire. The spindles are 14mm plain and single collar iron spindles from ‘Trade Stair Parts’. The customer had the spindles powder coated by an independent company in ‘White Aluminium’ for a distinct finish. 

For an added element of practicality an under-stair storage drawer has been installed, providing a useful and easily accessed space for keeping shoes.
