687. Kingswood staircase

All visible parts of this charming staircase with return landing balustrade are made from oak except for the softwood strings which have been painted white for contrast. The customer chose 35mm stop-chamfered spindles, newels with a slender cap and a square handrail, all in American white oak. As the stairs were to be carpeted, the treads were made from whitewood and the risers from plywood.
