A unique double staircase style, this project for a property in London combined wood, metal and glass to make a real design statement.
Manufactured from European oak, the thick 42mm thick treads were chosen to provide a natural, chunky look to each step. That was then separated by a distinctive half-open riser style that housed 25mm stainless steel bars between each tread. Matching these steel bars, the client sourced metal spindles themselves for both flights of stairs that provide this apartment with a unique contemporary style.
Designed with the objective of promoting the transmission of light throughout each floor, the combination of a half-open riser and thin metal spindles within the staircase is paired with glass on the middle landing balustrade.
An unconventional choice, this exquisite design goes beyond aesthetics; providing increased safety in the landing areas, with the glass panels filling the balustrade as opposed to a spindle balustrade that includes gaps.
To complete this voguish designer staircase, the client opted for a subtle chamfered top on all posts instead of newel caps, beautifully finishing this sophisticated structure.
